A Million Different Journeys
I just noticed that the PNG Tourism Promotion Authority (PNGTPA) has changed its’ marketing campaign from “Like every place you’ve never been” to “A million different journeys“. It’s a decision that reflects the changing perception of PNG tourism on the world stage, more specifically, of one that was relatively unknown and waiting to be discovered just five years ago, to the current market belief that PNG’s tourism industry is slowly gaining momentum.
It’s good news for our tourism operators and the continuous strong annual growth in tourist numbers is evidence that the sector is achieving as more people are listing PNG as a destination. Marketing campaigns in the tourism sector don’t usually have long life-cycles as they’re constructed inclusive of the changing environment – the global economic downturn a good example of what forces tourism agencies to adapt to the needs of their clients.
It would actually be interesting to find out whether PNGTPA has a record of their past marketing campaigns, the two mentioned above being the organisation’s most recent, but I also do recall the “Must see PNG” campaign of the 1990’s and the “Papua New Guinea Experience” campain of the early 2000’s.
