PNG Artists to Play at Australasian World Music Expo

George Telek will be playing at the Australian World Music Expo

ARIA award-winning composer and producer David Bridie recently commented on one of my posts and brought to my attention the upcoming Australasian World Music Expo and the participation of a handful of PNG musicians in the festival.

The Australasian World Music Expo (AWME) will run from November 20th-23rd in Melbourne and showcases traditional and contemporary indigenous, roots, and world music from Oceania, Asia and the Pacific region.

It truly is an international cultural experience with musicians from both indigenous Australia and white Australia, New Caledonia, New Zealand, West Papua, Solomon Islands, East Timor, Vanuatu and PNG confirmed to perform.

Those PNG artists set to play in front of international music delegates are:

  • George Telek
  • Airi Ingram
  • Richard Mogu
  • Hein Arumisore
  • Ben Hakalitz

I wasn’t too sure how BIG the AWME was until I took a look at the list of international music delegates who will be present. That list of delegates represents the “who’s who” of world music – it’s actually quite amazing and makes even more impressive the fact that our artists have been invited to perform.

NOTE:

David Bridie also mentioned that in December this year, together with World Vision, they will start their HIV music workshops in Madang Province. The purpose of the workshops is use PNG musicians and PNG song writing to communicate information and educate grass roots young men and women about HIV and harm- minimisation.

One Response to “PNG Artists to Play at Australasian World Music Expo”

  1. T, thank you so much for this. I was beginning to wonder what happened to Telek etc.

Ben Hakalitz will be playing with Tribe of Jubal on Feb, 28th at Lamana.

Do you have David Bridie’s email address? I wanted to know when he might be having a show up here in PNG??

What do you think?
